A couple weeks ago, I was a approached by my friend Katie about getting some samples of the Arbonne RE9 Advanced skincare line. I am always up for trying new products and brands, and I had never heard of Arbonne before (even though they’ve been around since 1975 in Switzerland and in 1980 in the U.S.) so I decided to give it a go.
In case you’ve never heard of Arbonne, here’s a quick background snippet on the brand. Arbonne is a network marketing company that markets and sells health/nutrition products and skin care products through direct sales (think Mary-Kay or Avon.) Arbonne is a company that strives to produce pure, safe and beneficial products with premium botanical ingredients. (Ingredient Guide)
“The idea to provide skin care products unparalleled in quality and effectiveness developed in Switzerland in 1975, when one man, Petter Mørck, together with a group of leading bio-chemists, biologists and herbalists, fulfilled his vision and founded Arbonne.” See more.
According to the website, the RE9 Advanced skincare system is “clinically proven to begin working on skin firmness in just 24 hours and is Arbonne’s #1 anti-aging line. Equipped with nine major age-defying elements plus botanicals, RE9 Advanced is a clinically tested, botanical-based skincare regimen.”
The products I received were a part of Arbonne’s RE9 Advanced anti-aging skincare line: Smoothing Face Cleanser, Regenerating Toner, Intensive Renewal Serum, Corrective Eye Creme, Restorative Day Creme Broad Spectrum (SPF 20 Sunscreen), Extra Moisture Restorative Day Creme Broad Spectrum (SPF 20 Sunscreen), Night Repair Creme.
Before I begin my review on each product, I should state that I have clear, mostly blemish-free skin. I consider myself to have “normal/combination” skin type, which means I am oily in my T-zone area but dry and normal elsewhere. Also, I was unable to test the packaging, due to having samples of the products.
Step 1. Arbonne Smoothing Facial Cleanser: This cleanser is for use in the morning and evening. It has a light citrus/orange fragrance, which I found refreshing. When washing my face, I felt the product was gentle on my skin and went on smoothly, like the name says. Overall, I thought it was a gentle cleanser that I feel would be fine for everyday use, for my skintype anyways.
Step 2. Arbonne Regenerating Toner: This product is also used both in the morning and evening, if desired. Strong, astringent-like smell, but seeing as how this is a toner, that’s to be expected. I applied some of the toner to a cotton ball and gently swabbed it across my face, making sure to really hit my T-Zone. After using both the smoothing cleanser and the toner, my skin was left really soft and citrusy-fresh smelling.
Step 3. Arbonne Intensive Renewal Serum: The serum is textured more like a lotion, and has the same citrus fragrance as the previous products. This product, also like the previous ones, is okay to use both morning and evening, everyday. I like this serum because it is very light and doesn’t feel really heavy or thick on your skin.
Step 4. Arbonne Corrective Eye Cream: Pretty much fragrance free, there is just a small taste of that citrus smell the RE9 Advanced product has been consistent with.
Step 5 DAY. Arbonne Restorative Day Creme/ Extra Moisturizing Day Creme: These products follow the Intensive Renewal Serum. These are both ‘true’ lotions and left my skin feeling soft. The citrus smell is consistent, but honestly both of these lotions felt the same to me, so I would say to only use one instead of both (the sample pack came with both so I tried both.) I would probably use the normal day creme versus the extra moisturizing one due to my skin type.
Step 5 NIGHT. Arbonne Night Repair Creme: To me, this smells and feels the same as the day creme (above.)
Did I feel like my skin became firmer overnight as the packaging suggests 83% of women report? I did feel like my skin was tighter and smoother. I liked how the RE9 Advanced system smelled and I did like the idea of a step by step process. I liked the cleanser, the toner and the serum. However, I think this system is a bit much, both price wise (pretty expensive) and product wise. There is an overwhelming amount of products here for one system, and I often thought to myself “which one do I use first?” Plus, according to an Arbonne clinical study, 72 women using the RE9 Advanced system received optimal results while using the skincare line ALONG with the Arbonne RE9 Advanced Collagen Dietary Supplement. To me, it’s just another thing to buy and to keep track of (even though I’m sure you don’t have to buy it.)
Overall, I would recommend this product for someone who is looking for a gentle, cleansing care system, but only if their skin type was the same as mine, seeing as how I had mild results. (I can’t speak for others with harsher or various skin types.) When it comes to skin care, all skin types react differently with various products. In reality, I could see myself probably only using steps 1-3. I wouldn’t recommend this product if you’re looking for a skincare line and you’re on a budget, or if you just prefer having one go-to, do-it-all cleanser.
Have you used the Arbonne RE9 Advanced skincare line, or any other Arbonne Products, and what are your thoughts on them?
